Nothing left

by Matt   Nov 13, 2005

So it only took him five short years
To find out there's nothing to hope for
In his world, the chances were infinite
But the opportunities never agreed
Every time he chose one thing to love
It turned around to spit in his face
To drag the scissors across bare flesh
And to laugh at his internal strife
Yes, the God he believed in cared
And yes, he continued to live
But every breath was like razors
Every step like a gun wound
And every word like needs through his heart
When will he learn, the no one ever wins
That there's nothing left to hope for
And nothing ever to die for?
The world is a dangerous place
For the hopeful, the jubilant, and proud
You may never know it, but look closely
The only people that get ahead
Are the ones who cheat, lie, and ignore
So maybe it's true after all
We're just better off breaking hearts.
