I was half asleep that night when you called
The sound of your voice made me smile
We talked about so many things that night
And the smile remained on my face all the while
When it came to that point you said you were scared
That the last thing you wanted was to lose me
I assured you that that would never happen
That by your side I will always be
I told you to ask yourself if you really wanted to be with me
You said after that what do I do
I asked if you had made up your mind and you said yea
I said then hurry up and ask me out cause its almost two
You said Samantha will you be my girlfriend
I giggled at how cute you sounded and said I would love to
We spent all of our free time together laughing and hanging out
I could never explain the happiness I felt when I was with you
That day started off wonderful
We were laughing and playing and joking around
But after we broke up that very same day
My heart laid in broken pieces on the ground
We shed our tears and you gave your reasons
But till this day I still don't understand
You said at the time what you really need is a good friend
And I promised to always be there to hold your hand
I'm sad because I really thought this would last
I thought it was just one of those things that was meant to be
But no matter how much pain I feel I'm also glad
Because this experience brought you closer to me
So for now I'll go back to wearing my fake smile
And be what you need me to be - a true friend
