Forty years ago

by Shelby Bridges   Dec 14, 2005

He could see the twinkle in her eye
about some fifty feet away
It seem the closer he got
his heart would begin to say
This time don't turn around
it was only just a dance
Just a twinkle in her eye
made him take that second chance

As he moved a little closer
he begin to see her smile
She seem to glow all over
with her warmth, grace and style
Then slowly he reached down
and softly took her by the hand
As he led her to the dance floor
without a word and without a plan

When he placed his arms around her
his shoulder her head would lay
They were lost in the stillness
as there bodies begin to sway
He said I have a little confession
then her face begin to glow
This ring I wanted to give you
for some forty years ago

As he reached around his neck
upon a neckless was a golden band
Then he kissed the ring so softly
as he place it on her hand
He said I have carried the ring
for forty years by my side
And now my life is complete
I have nothing left to hide

As she turned around to look at him
and her eye's were full of tears
She said I've wondered and I've watched for you
In my heart for forty years
