This time of year

by Flying Phoenix   Dec 15, 2005

Out through the window
Oh what a sight
Everything, from trees to gates
Is covered with a dusting of white
Smiling in your bed
With the warmth and softness
Comforting your head
You reach out to rise
Feel the cold touch your sides
And shiver delightedly
At this new touch of winter

All around you, throughout the day
Where you work and where you play
Peoples hushed whispers
As they conspire
As to what presents
To wrap by the fire

Mistletoe hangs
Around every corner or street
Strangers tread cautiously
Not knowing who they may meet
Sparkling lights and twinkling trees
Hurried faces
Dreading Christmas Eve

Yet surrounded by family
Friends and food
Everything seems wonderful
Festive music cheers the mood
There’s laughing and dancing
The whole night long
Everyone just waiting
To burst into song

Eat some turkey
And on with the hats
Drink till you drown
But avoid the cats

Smile as you sing
And laugh with the crowd
Wish everyone you hear
A very merry Christmas,
And a happy new year.
