Love Story

by Abby   Dec 20, 2005

A pretty girl of twenty,
was out shopping one fine day.
She pushed her cart down the row,
and was just about to pay,

when her eyes glanced up and met,
those of a sales clerk named Kyle,
as he nodded a 'good morning'
and stacked boxes in the aisle.

His apron didn't fool her,
for he wore a jaunty grin.
She glided quickly past him,
holding butterflies within.

That night, she got little sleep,
for she lay restless in bed.
She tried to think of school and work,
but he would not leave her head.

Tall he was, with coarse dark hair.
His eyes were like drops of dew.
But swanky girls were more his type.
He could never like her too.

One week later, she returned
to that same grocery store.
She'd run out of shaving cream,
and she was back to buy some more.

She picked up a box of razors,
and a loaf of whole wheat bread.
She hadn't done her makeup,
and she scratched her messy head.

At the register, she saw him,
putting groceries in a sack.
He couldn't see her in this state!
She put all her items back.

This went on for a couple weeks.
She snaked her way through the store,
but each time she caught a glimpse,
she yearned for him even more.

Finally, she couldn't stand it.
She would have to take a chance.
She took her items to the front,
ready to advance.

Will that be all today miss?
There's a sale on shampoo...
"Actually," she answered,
"A call from you would do.."

She passed her number over,
and blushed a little red.
As she turned, she quickly stopped.
"My name's Emily," she said.

They dated for a while, and
two years from that very day,
Kyle got down on one knee
and she became his fiance.

"When I first passed you with my cart,
I fell in love with you."
"I have a confession to make," he said.
"I really loved you too."
