Every Night

by Alanna   Jan 19, 2006

And here I am
Twisting and turning
In my Bed
Again.
Thinking of
The things
I should do
To get back to you.
Drifting in and out
Of a restless sleep
One I seem to know too well.
Wanting to cry out to someone
But finding no one to hear me
No one to hold me
And no one to calm me.

How I wish I could be in your bed
Snug closely next to you
Feeling the rise and fall
Of your body
Each time you breathe.
Making my breath match yours
Spooning you while you rest.
I remember the way you felt
I remember the way you sweat
As if in a bad dream.

I recall so fondly of
Those nights and days
Of the happiness we once had.
This time apart is killing us
And it scares me inside.
Can't you hear it in my voice?
The way it trembles?
Do you hear it?
Or are you ignoring it?
Thinking positive...
"She'll be with me soon."
Will it be soon?
Will it take a lifetime?
And will you wait?
These are the questions that fill my mind
Every night when the lights go out...
