Unspoken Heartbreak

by Poetvoices   Jan 23, 2006

I saw you in the hallway
just like I did the other day.
I promised that I definitely would
talk to you the next time I could.

But this time was like any other.
We pretended not to notice each other.
My excuse? I didn't have the time to smile
or an extra hand to wave. I'll see you again in a while.

And I'll do this same thing next time.
Up the wall, my eyes will climb.
Eye contact is hard to make
when, my heart, I'm sure you'd break.
