Lipstick on the Collar

by Steffi   Jan 27, 2006

She gave him her heart,
He gave her his soul.
They seemed so in love,
Their words never cold.
First she was his girlfriend,
Then became his wife.
But somewhere along the line,
Nights were spent alone,
Secret conversations on the phone.
Oh, if she only could have known.

About the lipstick on the collar,
The sudden smile that he wore.
The coldness that he gave her,
When he ran for the door.
She thought it was just business,
That he'd never do so wrong.
But the heart can believe any lie.
And the eyes can be blind,
To the lipstick on the collar.

She thought they were perfect,
How could she have seen?
That between their home and work,
Was another in between.
She couldnt bring herself to admit it,
To take off and say goodbye.
Untill a friend told her what she saw that night.
At the small local bar.

The lipstick on the collar
The sudden smile he wore.
The coldness that he gave to her,
When he ran for the door.
She thought it was just business,
That he'd never do her wrong.
But the heart can believe any lie,
And the eyes can be blind,
To the lipstick on the collar.

She gave him her heart,
He gave her his soul.
They seemed so in love,
But things turned out so cold.
First she was his girlfriend,
She used to be his wife.
But somewhere along the line,
She moved on with her life.
But if she only could have seen.

The lipstick on the collar,
The sudden smile he wore.
The coldness that he gave her,
When he ran for the door.
She thought it was just business,
That he'd never do her wrong.
But the heart can believe any lie,
The eyes can be blind,
To the lipstick on the collar.
