Her heart has bled

by Kristi White   Feb 24, 2006

Among a deserted road
where all but hope survives.
Upon a slanted slate of rock
sits a small girl gazing at the sky.
A wishful falling raindrop
slides down 1 cheek beside a tear.
Hand in hand comes serenity,
her courage against her fear.
Rain begins to crash down
at the same rate as she cries.
She screams out to nobody
just to hear an echo's reply.
Deep inside she crumbles,
breaking down to her roots.
The base of her problem
is everything she never even knew.
She refuses to look at
what's right before her eyes
so she looks behind herself
not quite knowing why.
Tossing all her thoughts away,
she curls up to not be seen.
Once more she tosses and turns
through a night of sleepless dreams.
Then the wolf howls and she wakes up
with the memories in her head.
She looks down to find the stains upon her soul
from what her heart has bled.
