For one night (of my life)

by The Spirit of Ash   Mar 3, 2006

For one night of my life
I was living it free
In a new world of love
It was just you and me

For one night of my life
I could have my fun
I could live it to the fullest
Until the night was done

When I first took your hand
I felt something right there
A person who was different
Full of love, tenderness and care

When I stepped onto the floor
I felt a sensational touch
And when I looked into your eyes
My heart made a clutch

We held each other close
And together took a chance
Under the shining starlight
We shared our first dance

Gliding on the hardwood
Shifting our feet
I would twirl in and out
Then again we would meet

Walking in a pattern
We'd stride a dance coined
Parting at our slow pace
And once again be rejoined

The magic in the movements
Were beginning to shroud
All the wonder filled around us
Like dancing on a cloud

It may not mean as much
To these people or even you
But I learned something that night
That love is alive and true

For one night of my life
I could feel no pain
All the hate around me
Was beginning to drain

And for one night of my life
I knew I was cared for
No hurt or abuse that night
I think you opened a lock door

*I'm fifteen now, and have lived my entire life feeling like an outcast. Most people-even my own parents-treat me more like a thing rather than a person. At school I'm harassed in almost any way possible. From words to sexual harassment. At home I'm usually ordered around or ignored. And special nights, I'm yelled at, threatened or hit. That one night our of my entire life meant a lot to me. For the first time I felt was it was like to be truly cared for, and it gave me hope.
