A Selfdestructive Yearning

by Brett Rodgers   Mar 6, 2006

I yearn to live,
I yearn to be free,
I yearn to get away,
I yearn to be me.

I yearn for power,
I yearn for wealth,
I yearn for independence,
I yearn for health.

I yearn to learn,
Knowledge I will drink,
I yearn to be able,
Able to think.

I have it all,
All I yearned for is mine,
It came all at once,
All at a single time.

Then came the responsibility,
That began to overwhelm,
And started collapsing,
My mental realm.

Then came the loss of sanity,
That I will never regain,
Then came a final yearning,
A yearning to be slain.
