Whats The Meaning Of The Words I Love You?

Can someone please tell me what is the meaning of the words I love you.
I say it is the strong attraction between two individuals.
My ex always said that he loved me. We had a strong attraction, but then that attraction became smaller and smaller by the moment.
So if we had a strong attraction and it grew smaller...how could we ever say I love you?!

    I don't think love is only about attraction...think about it, could you be attracted to your parents for exemple...lol...
    love is about caring, and about needing someone in your life, it's about not knowing what to do without that person, it's about forget when you met then because you feel like you've known them forever,
    love is about all that I believe, but what makes a special boy's love different from you're parents one is indeed the attraction...
    but you won't go far with "only" attraction!
    Or at least this is what I believe!
