Ten Years Gone

by Timothy r   Mar 26, 2006

I can hear the whispers in the dark
Moving across my empty room
I reach for you with outstretched arms
But all I can feel is the memory of you

Why am I the one who has to survive?
Knowing the future would be filled with pain
It has been 10 years since you died
I have been unable to start over again

People have said it is time to go on
But they couldn`t possibly know
The pedestal our love was set upon
Or the lifetime that was promised long ago

I vowed to love you for the rest of time
Though I could not forsee how long that would last
Eternity was just a picture in my mind
We shared a life whose time had passed

Today as I lay a rose upon your grave
I cannot imagine ten years gone
For you my girl, my heart is saved
Knowing my love will always go on

Wow, I like it! Though a bit lovey-dovey and sappy for my taste :)
Seriously, it is beautifully written with such heartbreaking sadness.
I like the opening lines, it sets an eerie mood, that compliments the rest of the poem.
    Well done...
    Love ya~Holly
