Actuality's Compromise

by Carlee Ann   Apr 2, 2006

I looked into those eyes
Those eyes, so damn blue
And I was captivated
By the reality of you

But I looked away and smiled
For I knew in my heart
That I could never have you
Lest I tear myself apart

I caught myself staring
Every once in a while
It was so hard to look away from
That mesmerizing smile

And in that moment I wished
I wished and God, I prayed
I wanted you, only you
To be mine for a day

I barely slept those nights
And when I did close my eyes
It was to see you in a dream
Actuality's compromise

You were there, one in a thousand
But all that I could see
Was you and your beauty
Forever left to be

You were looking at me too
And while I prayed, you wished
But we were apart in spirit
Hope's misery kissed

And then one day it happened
And I felt it in my heart
You and I would be together
And we would not fall apart

Even now you make me shiver
And you light up a room
On the brink of love
Fear no longer looms

I cannot explain it
And I do not understand
But I get enthralled
By the simple touch of your hand

When I look into those eyes
I know God exists
Because it would take something great
To create such extraordinary bliss

There are not words to express
What it is that I feel
But understand this:
What I feel is real.

So take me close into those arms
And just hold me tight
Because of everything I know
This is just so right

Put your hand in mine
And kiss me with your lips
And I will feel this love
Down to my fingertips

I will do whatever it takes
I would do anything for you
Baby, just hold me
And let our love be true.
