Sunset Tears

Just a few sunsets ago
He was here
I could feel his presence
As I lay against his chest

Looking down below
I shed a tear
In sake of his absence
All I want is this one request

We were always together
When the sun would set
Now I wish he were next to me
To stop the flow of tears

I thought we had forever
The way the sun cast silhouettes
Only he, held my heart and the key
Only he, could cast away my fears

I sit here alone
On the bank of the pond
Wishing he was here to hold
So I could feel safe and warm again

I wish I would have known
Because I grew quite fond
Now I'm lost and cold
Everything was perfect, back then

We had everything
Smiles to bring us joy
Tears to bring us nearer
And a love to unite us as one

Looking back, my eyes sting
Remembering his life and how it was destroyed
If only he had looked in his rear-view mirror
In one quick second, his life was undone

I flash back all the time
To the life I once had
Now everything is in slow motion
These thoughts won't leave my head

What did he do, what was his crime?
This event has made me so sad
I find it hard to express emotion
My hope is hanging by a thread

I loved him, and always will
He was my best friend and my lover
His face will continue to linger
His presence will always been known

I will come back to this spot until
My life is rediscovered
With his ring on my finger
And his love carved in stone

I will cry as the sun falls
Every single night
And I will express my love
Through every poem I write
