Remembering A Lifetime with You

by Daniel Jimenez   May 15, 2006

We lived a long life together Laura.
Our bodies grew old and our hair grey.
The memories we shared, the heartaches, the tears,
in my heart they will forever stay.

I remember when we where both young
And I was so eager to be by your side
We felt as if each day was our last together
Till the day I made you my bride.

It was so long ago but I remember it well
How you looked on our wedding night
The smell of your perfume, the look in your eyes
Your sweet kisses so soft and light.

I can still feel your arms around me
Squeezing me tight against your chest
as you gazed into my eyes so lovingly.
Why am I so blessed!?

Do you remember how young we where?
Remember how we where so full of life?
Remember how good it all felt
to finally be husband and wife.

Remember how happy we where at Church?
when at last we can sit together
without people giving us dirty looks
or the evil eye from your mother.

Do you remember the first day you picked out my clothes?
Do you remember our first time holding hands?
Do you remember that night on Laguna Beach,
or that entire day at Disneyland?

Remember when we had our first child,
And how you prayed for it to have my eyes?
How wonderful the day he was finally born
with my eyes to my surprise!

My lovely wife. My Precious one.
Laura I love you so much!
How I long for those years gone by,
those memories my heart does clutch.

Do you still feel my youthful arms?
or do you only see this tired old man?
Can you remember that far back?
Do you still love the same man?

Though your hands have grown weaker
and grayer is your hair
in my eyes I will always see you
as my lovely bride so young and fair.

In my eyes you have never aged.
Still as young as young can be!
You still got those eyes and sensual smile
That warms the coldest parts of me.

Oh we lived a happy life together my love,
But now it's time for me to say good-bye.
My body is slowing fading away,
And very soon I'm going to die.

With family all around me
my heart at last feels peace.
And in these final moments
my faith in God increased.

I stare at your face Laura,
It's laced with tears and sympathy.
But take comfort in just this thought:
SOON HIS FACE I SHALL SEE!

You hold my hand so firmly
as I lay here on deaths bed.
I feel my life slipping away
as you kiss me on my head

As my eyes close for the last time
And I slip into the final sleep called death
The memories of us come flooding back
As I whisper "I love you Laura"
with my final breath.

And in a moment I stand before Christ
and He judges me before His throne.
He finds me worthy! My heart rejoices
as He welcomes me to my heavenly home.

He prepares a seat for me at His table
How magnificent is the view!
And next to me is an empty seat
reserved especially, for you.
