The green-eyed monster

by ShadowDancer   May 18, 2006

It strikes whenever I see her
As she looks into your eyes
Each time, deep inside of me
A green-eyed monster does arise

And over the all years
On my jealousy it's grown
Until it envelopes me totally
No movement is my own

It's the green- eyed monster
Who greets her everyday
But inside is roaring
Wanting to make her pay

It's the green eyed monster
Who wrote those notes to you
Telling you things about her
Something I would never do

And it's the green-eyed monster
Who spread those lies she heard
Even though they all think it was me
I had never said a word

It's the green-eyed monster
Who when ever it gets the chance
Dresses in next to nothing
In front of you starts to dance

It's the green-eyed monster
Who makes me shake with fear
Of its terrible roars and howls
When ever she and you are near

And it's the green eyed-monster
Who went out and bought a gun
And I closed my minds eye
In despair of what was to come

And blinded by such jealousy
It was not me who shot your girl
It was the green-eyed monster
Seeing only a hate-red whirl

And it was the green-eyed monster
Would did all that you see
It was the green-eyed monster
Why are you blaming me?

All of these lines are pretty nonsensical. The lack of identification toward the "He" and "She" and "You"'s makes the whole poem pointless. As the reader, I feel no connection to these people who have no name.

And, lastly, the whole poem was one huge cliche. The "Green-eyed Monster" concept is totally drawn out and leaves little originality to be played with.

I like the concept...the person who is gone totally insane, enveloped by rage all because of love. The desire, the need to protect such a love is something that I'm sure many have experienced. You did a good job conjuring up this list of stories, these blind acts of love.

The only problem I have is that the last stanza seems to be worded awkwardly...try and fix that.

I don't know what to say...the poem is WAY too awesome for words to express!! I absolutely loved it!! You're an awesome writer and don't stop! Hopefully one day I can write a poem HALF as great as that!!
