I Will Always Love You

by Animus   May 25, 2006

Once upon a time, you used to hold me in your arms.
You used to say you loved me and that you'd never let me go.
I grew to love the feelings you stirred up inside of me.
Then I grew to love you, not just as a friend, but as a person I want to grow old with.
I dreamed of always having you by my side, and how I would always love you.
But when you asked me that fateful question, I didn't know what to say.
A thousand fears flew through my head.
I feared that I wasn't good enough, and that I'd be a disappointment.
I loved you so much, but I was too scared.
When I said 'no', I saw the heartbreak in your eyes.
At that moment, I wanted to throw my arms around you and confess everything.
But I was too proud, and my pride caused me my happiness.
I watched you suffer while I planned the day when I would tell you.
But as time went by, I saw you drifting away, and I feared I would lose you.
When I first saw you put your arms around her, I knew I had lost you, and I cried myself to sleep.
When I first saw you hold hands, it was like someone had twisted a rusty knife in my heart.
I was too late in telling you of my feelings, and I will never forgive myself for passing up the chance you gave me to love you with all my heart.
Just know that I will always be there for you, and I will always love you, Titus.

"But I was too proud, and my pride caused me my happiness"

Too many time people let their pride rule their heads and not their hearts.
    Nice poem
