HERNE AND THE MOON GODDESS

by *Raven Angel*   Jun 2, 2006

From the dark root sap
in the ancient forest grove
sacred chants echo
invoke

moon goddess
weaves through the trees
teasing
the horned god Herne
hides in the leaves
the oak against the stars

Born to die
the gay May fool
ribbon and bell bedecked
spreads the seed dance of life
bleeds to death on October's altars
burns on the pyres of centuries

masculine sacrifice
on the Tree of Life
cut down to rise

the face under the mirrored_rages green
spewing cornucopia
like a pumpkinlightgrin
on a harvest table

the fear in a child's mind
the spirit in a corn doll.
