Softly Comes the Night

by Erick R Williams   Jun 7, 2006

Softly comes the night,
Across the embracing darkness,
Eyes so beautiful,
Words can only take wing,

A touch of her hand,
A taste of her lips,
Pulling back to look,
Always again, to see.

Softly comes the night,
Each more tender,
I reach out to find her,
Holding on tightly.

Fear swirls with love,
A thought takes wing,
Where did she go,
It is night and she is gone.

Sleep teases,
Moving close and then away,
Yielding, I fall,
As I have fallen for her.

Softly comes the night,
Again, eyes, piercing,
Beautiful,
An ephemeral spirit.

Imagining life,
Imagining her,
Reaching out,
Wanting and needing both.

Softly comes the night,
Wordless and timeless,
She takes my breath away,
And part of me,
As well.
