He Came

He came into my world so softly,
It was as if he were not even there,
I fell for him almost instantly,
But to him I was only a friend,
Never anything more or less.

He came into my world so sweetly,
So sweetly he came,
So softly he went.
For a long while he did not know,
Then I asked the question,
“Want to go out sometime?”
The reply made my heart stop,
“Sorry you’re not my type,”
For I was only a friend,
Nothing more, nothing less.

He came into my world so quietly,
But no matter how quietly he came,
He left footprints on my heart,
That will never go away,
For I was only a friend,
