My Heart

by Kait   Jun 15, 2006

What happens if I walk away
And leave my heart in your hands?
Will you take care of it?
Cherish it?
Or will you stomp on it,
and break it to pieces
until it stops beating?
Will you just let our love die?
I don't know if I trust you with my heart.
But, I know my love for you will never die.

So, I'm walking away from you now.
All you're left with is a golden heart-shaped locket and a tiny key.
I only gave you one instruction.
Open the locket with the key only if you care about me.

Now the key is slowly turning in the locket.
The heart opens up.
Engraved on the inside is four tiny words.
My love for you.
You put the heart on a chain
and you wear it close to your own heart

You walk to my house in the pouring rain.
I hear the rocks hitting my window.
I run out to meet you on the doorstep.
You show me where my heart hangs from your neck.
You hold me close and say you will never let our love die.

So, that's how the story ends.
I stay in your arms forever.
You cherish my heart until the very end.
Our love will live on for many years to come.

I walked away not knowing what you would do with my heart.
You hung my heart right next to yours.
It remained there until the end of time.
