Guess this is goodbye

Crash of thunder, flash of light illuminates a black sky
The rain comes down, fast, heavy and I begin to cry
I look out into the night then slowly turn back to you
You ask me not to leave, but you know that I have to

I never wanted this, been holding off this day for years
This day of broken promises, regrets and endless tears

Turning from you I begin to think of that place only I know
A place from my dreams, a place where perhaps I can grow
I think it's there that I'll find what I've lost and what I seek
I want to give up and stay, but this is one time I can't be weak

Wiping the tears from my face as I pull on my shoes
Slipping on my coat I think of everything I'm about to lose

I stand, open the door and look out into the dark rain

As we say our last goodbyes you hand me an old photograph
It's of a time when we were able to smile and laugh
