Time of need

by emmerz   Jun 19, 2006

Waiting for it to stop
Not knowing when or why
Feeling like she's all alone
While listening to them fight

The neighbor across the street smiles
Oblivious to it all
Even though it was just one act
His kindness made the troubles fall

The phone rings in the middle of the night
The one when I can't sleep
There was a reason I had to stay up
To help her in her time of need

Two weeks later the phone rings again
This time its her mother on the line
She asks me if I'm with her daughter
Who didn't come home last night

I spend the next day all around town
Searching for her familiar face
I find her inside the local coffee shop
With tears running down her face

"No one came looking for me
I spent all night in fear
I owe it all to you, good friend
In my time of need, you were here"
