My Knight

by Anneboleynfreakizoid (or Jamie if you prefer)   Jun 20, 2006

I was a broken prisoner
Hurt too many times
My heart was lost in the endless tears
Held back by others crimes

This could have been the reason
I jumped so at the chance
To heal my soul and fix my pride
With another sweet romance

My knight came on a blackened steed
Appeared upon the sun
With lips he felt and with hands he spoke
Of the courtship he had won

The days of June were sunny
And they led onto July
Soon August came and August went
To recall the months gone by

He chased me in the summer fields
And kissed me on the moon
But his grace was pure while the rhythm soft
And I danced on to that tune

Perhaps I gave too quickly
To let him take me yonder
But whatever the way whatever the cause
His eyes began to wonder

At first for just an instant
And then a longing stare
Hed turn from me and gaze at her
Without a shame or care

But still he saw my pining
And unlike a monster said
That he loved me so and did no wrong
To make me smile instead

But the words he spoke were nothing
From a man who all but failed
For him I tried; made a happy face
But behind closed doors I wailed

On till finally I knew it
Id lose him to her will
So the shock that came on the next cold words
Would not so surely kill

Sweet pollen grazed his forehead
He bent and said alas
He could not stay; his duty called
But he cherished all the passed

And yet his words were mocking
They aimed to hit; to scorn
He did not go for valiant things
But for what he found adorn

So again I was in b o n d a ge
Led away to d e a t h
Money and riches could save me not
Only the sound of his breath

Like a man condemned to to r ture
Id pace, and cry and see
The g irl he sought; the gi rl he loved
As once he did with me

And I readied for the coming
My ex ecution set
And like I had done so many times
I went weighed by regret

And so the tale there ended
Cut short by the blow
Of an axe or a thought or the broken love
Of not knowing where to go
