Ascending Cautiously

by Mark   Jun 20, 2006

I carefully run my trembling hand
across the old pine of the table,
my fingers getting lost
in dents of past romance,
as I slowly reach out
for your rapidly beating heart.

The distant melody playing
over indefinable voices
of couples embracing
from tables all around,
is instantly silenced
by one look into your eyes.

I feel the gentle heat
flowing through the flame
of the silently flickering candle,
as it lights the smile
behind your eyes
for only me to see.

Captured by the innocent beauty
of the flowers yet to be awoken,
I lose myself in dreams
of waking in the safety
of your arms.

I love you.
