I Rise

by Eduardo Serrano   Aug 18, 2006

You tried bringing me down,
yet still I rise.
I'm still here now,
and that you had to know.
You tried breaking me,
yet to this day I rise.
My friends were there for me,
and unlike you they felt like family.
You tried taking my freedom away,
but greater and greater I rose.
You couldn't even take my faith away,
because faith led me here alone.
You thought you knew me,
expecting me to fail.
But if you really knew me,
then you'd know that I always prevail.
You tried to block the sun,
hiding me from the light.
My misery you had brung,
and yet still I rise.
You could take my words from me,
but I'll still rise.
You could drive me to the point of insanity,
but since you can't change me,
still I rise.
You tried putting the world on my shoulders,
but with it I still rose.
You tried blocking my path with boulders,
but over them I rose.
I need to tell you,
this thought in my mind.
No matter what you say or do,
forever I'll stand,
and forever,
I'll rise.
