Stolen

by Matt   Aug 19, 2006

Stumbling onward, the wanderer returns
Gone down some lost path that no one knew
Only to come back to his empty home
He's learned about life and love
And continued to walk past it all
Until he saw the one person cross his path
Saw her gently let her feet fall on the dust
Walking right next to him for a single breath
But after he blinked she was long gone
Always haunting the shadows of his life
He felt his chest lift to the sky
Pulling his body off the ground
So only his toes dragged softly on ground
Ripping his heart from his chest
Through the skin and now broken ribs
Only to drop him to his knees, heaving air
Newly found love had never been a thought
But it seems some things are uncontrollable
Even for the growing numbness he thought he had
Still, he'll do what he has always done
Get to his feet, lift his shoulders
And drag on, day after dying day
Until his journey is complete
With no more road to walk and no path to blaze
He'll be laid among his peers
That never knew more than his name...

All except the one that stole his heart.
