The Rain Brings the Snails

by Nancy   Sep 2, 2006

The rain brings the snails,
And it's raining now.
I'm grateful for the rain,
This time of drought seems endless.
But as I walk along the street,
Water streaming from my hair,
I think about the snails.
The rain brings the snails,
Out from where they live,
When the sun shines too brightly on our earth,
And they crawl along,
The pathways, grass and roads.
Some people crush the snails,
Cracking their delicate shells.
Children collect the snails,
Look at them with magnifying glasses,
Paint on them,
Lose them.
But I like to watch the snails,
As they crawl about the earth.
I make my feet avoid them,
To let them live their lives.
The rain brings the snails.
