Forgotten

by Matt   Sep 18, 2006

I've been thinking about you and me
All this worry about the future
Possibilities, hopes, and dreams
We thought them all to have a purpose
Everything seemed to be the way it should
Like we could be together and happy
But walking around this old town
I realized on a lover's lookout
Staring out over the moving lights
That danced down the freeway below
The days I got in my car to follow the road
Days I thought about going until I found you
Somewhere on the lonely road
For just a second in passing, frozen time
And broken, blurred backgrounds passing
I do anything I can to forget
But the people I know and the places I go
All remind me of you
So it's become so clear for me to see
That self-improvement isn't the answer
My self-destruction and impending oblivion
Are the keys to finding you again someday
We'll pass on the street and you won't know
You'll think for a moment, even break your pace
And be reminded of the ghost you forgot in time
But I'll know, and I'll walk on with a growing smile
All because you don't remember
You don't care anymore
So I'll blend back into the crowd, forever forgotten...
