Beautiful portrayal of what could have been: people from all sides calling truce. They always say wise men learn from fool's mistakes - i wonder what the modern world is. wonderfully penned.

thank you for your comments. will keep coming back to read more of your work.

    thank you for sharing this.

*sings* I'm adding you to my favorites. 5/5 you deserve no less. Loved the flow and rhyme! But part that clicked for me was:

Be quiet soldier the captain said
or by MY hand you will be dead

    i thought wow catchie....

    anyways GREAT JOB!

Excellent flow of words and rhyme scheme. War is one of the hardest subjects to write on and you do it well. It made me feel an empathy with soldiers on the field.

You did a great job writing this piece. Although, isn't it sad that ppl can act like friends one day and complete enemies the next. It disgusts me. Jpoet*

Oh my, john, this was great poem you penned here, telling the history....

The soldiers were drafted and had no choice, But this did not worry the protesters, or change the tone of their voice, They had to fight..... When the soldiers had been withdrawn, On arrival home they were met with hate and scorn, The crowd said it is you we have grown to detest, So the soldier could not walk with pride with medals on his chest, It was not the soldier that should despise, The bureaucrats of the day, Are the ones that should pay, Even though it is late and overdue.

have a great day myfriend, take care! best wishes from west, bert.
