Ghetto love

by wildcat   Sep 23, 2006

I stand here alone
Calling out to you
You are there somewhere
Up in the sky so blue

Once upon-a-time
You were by my side
Always us together
Until the day you died

You lost your life
I lost your love
The day you returned
To heaven up above

We were so happy
Everything was great
But for our love story
It is now too late

From smiles to tears
Laughter to pain
You were taken away
Another brother slain

The neighbors whisper
That you deserved to die
A boy from the hood
Selling dope to get by

You were a good kid
Just trying to get paid
So that we could escape
A lifetime of being afraid

You were not a thug
Just a boy who dreamed
Whose life was ended
Before his sins redeemed

When we were alone
We had so much fun
So hard to believe
That you owned a gun

The streets that raised you
Also got you shot dead
A boy from our block
Filled your body with lead

At 22 your life cut short
All over an unpaid debt
Images of your broken body
I will never be able to forget

Your homies poured out
A little liquor in your name
For another brother lost
Caught up in the game

I am expecting
A precious gift from you
In just 3 months time
Our child is now due

I will raise him to know
His daddy was a rider
Doing all that he could
To be a good provider

It is so hard without you
I pray for your return
Because until I see you
My heart will always yearn

Now your gone forever
I can only visit a grave
Just another from the
hood that could not be saved

Ill think of you when I see the doves
Ill never forget my ghetto love
