A sad farewell

The best day of a sad year,
you needed me and I was there.

The feeling of hope, the warmth, the peace.
With you by my side I felt at ease.

Through times gone by your heart I did break,
but love so strong I never could fake.

Broken promises, broken dreams,
Inner demons controlling my feelings.

As I lay them all to rest,
My heart so empty to lose the best.

To stay together the risk for you too great,
All I can hope is for me you have no hate.

To be over now I feel the pain,
Did we go through all that in vain?

Darkness removed that once made me feel blue,
With eyes wide open I see how much I love you.
