IN MY SLEEP

by Jessica   Nov 13, 2006

Deep within the farthest reaches
Of my darkest dreams
Where everything is possible
And nothing\'Swhat it seems,

There is a castle on a hill,
A castle dark and vast
Who hides its evil workings under
Beauty unsurpassed.

And in this very castle is
The most frightening thing of all
A long and winding corridor
A never-ending hall.

This hall, it haunts me in my dreams
For on its either side
Stand countless doors, all kinds of doors
And all the things they hide.

Doors of fiery orange-red
Doors of icy cold
Doors of wood and metal doors
Doors of solid gold.

Doors of such immensity
I cannot find their ends,
And doors so small that what\'s inside
I can\'t quite comprehend.

I often find myself to be
Running in my dreams
Running down the Hall of Doors
And hearing fading screams.

I run till I no longer can
And wake up terrified
Of things I can\'t remember
That in my mind reside.

And then one night, I fell asleep
And found myself once more
Running in the endless hall,
The endless Hall of Doors.

Except this time, it HAD an end,
This ceaseless corridor--
I saw, quite far away it was:
A large, black metal door.

I made my way towards it
With my running, echoing feet
My arms outstretched, embracing
My darkest dream\'s defeat.

But as I turned the knob and opened
That one final door
The darkness all spilled out of it
And I? I was no more.

And now I live within the hall
The boundless Hall of Doors
Never to awake again
From the nightmare I abhor.

Instead I reign supreme upon
The castle in my dreams
King and Queen of all the doors
While in my heart I scream.
