The sand on the beach can hear the waves
but it cannot feel the tide
roll in and out and in again
for it's too far from the shore
how the sand wants to feel the ocean
cover its every inch
every pebble longing for the water
to hide it from the sun
the sand has given all it has to reach
the distant tide
it has traveled for so long
tried so very hard
watching the waves roll in and out
and in again
the tide can be the only one
to cover it from the sun
now the tide must choose
whether to roll in
or out
or in again
