The Proposal Poem

I'm thinking about proposing to my girlfriend by reciting her this poem. Tell me what you guys think.

We've talked about this before
And we decided to wait.
It's been over a year now
And I think that this is the date

It has taken me more than two months
To write this entire script.
And I must say it to you
Before I'm dead and in a crypt.

You have made me feel like a king
For this entire past year.
It has made me so happy
Yet I didn't shed a tear.

I know you've heard this before,
But you mean the universe to me.
I'd climb the highest mountain for you
Or swim down the deepest sea.

Thought we have our differences
I know that you're the perfect girl.
That is what brings us together
In this crazy, mixed up world.

I've never been too sure about the future,
But now I'm not the least bit afraid.
Because now I know your hand
Will be there at my aid.

My heart was a dark and lonely place
Until you finally came along.
I've been looking for you my entire life
And you filled my heart with a caring song

You showed me how to care
And express how I really feel.
You showed me how to be happy, sad,
And all this time it felt real.

The only emotion you never showed me
Was how to properly give care.
I guess you taught me without knowing it
Because that's an action I'd never dare.

And now my long poem
Finally comes to a close.
Now allow me to take a moment
And ask you this one question I pose.

Our lives just fit together
It is as perfect as can be.
But without you I am nothing
So will you marry me?
