A Poem From My Friend

*My friend wrote this for me, I can't thank her enough for it.

I never really knew what to expect,
The day our friendship first became
But now I realize, our paths,
Were always bound to be the same

When everything I thought of was sad
You guided me through my awkward stage
To see the good in things, rather than the bad
You helped me throught it all, the pain and the rage

In my mind, that moment will always remain
That one night you came over
When we usually laugh to something others think insane,
This time it was different
Something was wrong, you were in pain

As I lay there beside you
You may have not known
But as I listened close, I could hear,
The other end of the phone
I saw you get mad, but still very sad

I never like to see you this way,
And I wanted to hang the phone up myself
But I held myself back, and still, I did lay

I told myself not to show any tears
I needed to stay strong, and not mad
I didn't want to give you any more fears
And another reason to be sad

I love you so very much, and yes,
I'm so very glad to have met you
And so very glad you're going to confess
For I felt that time, there was nothing I could do
Nothing I could do, to help you through

I felt so bad, that I couldn't stop you
That I had failed as your friend
To protect you from others, and from yourself too
You helped me see the light, and,
And then when it was my turn, I didn't do my part

And this last verse may not rhyme,
But there are some words I need to share
I'm so glad I got to know you so well,
So that I could help you in that time
And for that matter, any other moment,
That you need shoulder to cry on.
