I Would Die For You

**Note: The general idea of this poem is not mine. I have re-written it to make it my own creation, though.**

She sat him down across from her and looked him in the eye.
"How much do you love me?" she asked him, her head tilting to the side.
"I would die for you," he said, staring into her eyes, which showed her that what he said was true.
She looked down at her hands and said, "Would you ever let me go?"
His face turned serious, wondering if something was wrong. "No, I wouldn't," he replied.

Three weeks later, she sat him down again.
She softly whispered, "Do you think there is a Heaven?"
He stared at her intently, wondering what had gotten into her lately.
She seemed depressed, but happy at the same time.
"Yes, I believe there is a Heaven," he replied, taking her hands into his.
She looked at him, her eyes holding a sad light, but her smile showing relief.
She brought his hand up to her mouth and kissed it.
He knew now something was wrong.

He scooted his chair closer to hers, and asked her,
"What's wrong, please tell me.
What are you hiding from me?"
She avoided his eye.
She couldn't tell him,
It was too hard.

A week later, she woke up in a stranger's bed.
She looked around and realized she was in the hospital.
Someone was holding her hand,
She looked at the hand that cradled hers,
Then up the arm to the body that it belonged to.
There she saw her loving boyfriend's face
His sad smile
His eyes fixated on hers.
He leaned over and kissed her gently on the forehead.
"You're going to be OK," he said as he smiled down at her.
He'd finally found out what was wrong with her.
She had liver cancer.

He'd sat her down a few days before she had to go to the hospital
And asked her what was wrong.
She broke down crying,
Telling him that she was very sick
And chances of her living were slim to none.

But now, back in the hospital, he kissed her one more time
A goodbye kiss.
"How much do you love me?"
Her question ran through his mind, as did his answer.
"I would die for you."

The girl woke up, later that day.
She'd just gone through a complicated surgery.
She was confused; she didn't think she'd make it through it all.
"What happened to me?" she asked her doctor.

Her doctor smiled down and said,
"That boy loved you very much.
He offered to have his healthy liver taken out
In order to save your life."

He hadn't let her go,
But instead, took her place.
He knew one day they'd meet again, in Heaven.
And he would again see her lovely face.

"How much do you love me?"
"I would die for you."
