Think of Them on Christmas

by dollwithafrown   Dec 22, 2006

When I was a young child
Christmas to me was fun and games
Sitting around the burning turkey
We were a perfect picture, a non-dying flame

I looked forward to Christmas morning
Seeing if dear Santa had arrived
Trying to sleep the night before was torture
I really don't know how I survived

Ripping off the colourful paper
I had not a single care at all
A doll, a puzzle, a Playstation game
A brand new poster for my wall

But as I got much older
The questions began to arise
What about all the poor little children?
All the war fighters dying before our eyes?

What do they get on Christmas morning?
A bullet, a knife, a bomb?
While they fight for our countries
We are enjoying a festive prom

So all I ask for this wonderful Christmas
Is not for a brand new doll
All I want from you before you celebrate
Is to think of the people who take the fall

On Christmas day we share with our loved ones
Precious memories from the past year
But what about all those other people
How do they get their Christmas cheer?

I love this...it was so moving and resulted with thought provoking questions for me.
The flow was great throughout, the ending was perfect, it carried so much meaning.
You did a really great job with this one.

The happiness is real in here, yet there is a hint of hate in it, of politics too.

the wording was amazing, keep writing.

Another great read. I have nothing to say that would need to be done to this one either. It's sad about how selfish people are for political and money gain. We shouldn't be acting like this. Animals are better in that aspect, I do believe. Do keep up the good work, though.

I agree with Twisted Heart, althought the flow was off in places, the message definetly makes up for it.

There are people who are less fortunate than us everyday, I think more people think about it around the holidays..when I was in college, we sent care packages to some of the soldiers in Iraq around Christmas time. Even though it only helped one platoon, if everyone did a little, it would add up to a lot! Great message in this one!
