The Flickering Lamp-Post

by dandy   Feb 22, 2007

Why can't it be?
Why can't they see
that you might have been made for me?

It may be foolish but it's love,
sent to us from way above.
No other reason I can think of
for the way your hand fits in mine, just like a glove.

This is no fairy tale we stumbled into.
More like a nightmare that came true.
Not sure where to go or what to do,
don't want to give up and say I'm through.

To rest in comfort among these saddened petals.
Curl up and keep safe before the storm settles.

For it is in losing that we find what means most
on a cold, rainy night by that flickering lamp post.
We can walk away or wait to see
if the lamp shines another day.
Rays extending like arms to warm us once again,
just as that love once did.
To feel such warmth again...
