Lock of Love

by dandy   Feb 24, 2007

Foot pressed firmly on the pedal,
speeding up to 65.
Just needing to escape the sadness,
she's trying to survive.

Tired of riding in the fast lane
she turns on a dirt road.
She parks among the fading daylight,
content with being alone.

How she got here she'll never know,
things were going smooth.
All at once the bumps came along,
heart crashing, now permanently bruised.

She doesn't want to cry again,
though tears do sting her eyes.
But every time she attempts being strong
another piece of her hope dies.

After several hours,
how long exactly, she's not sure.
She starts the car back up again
and prays these pleading words:

"Please God, help me find my way
on this road I'm on right now.
I can't get through this on my own,
send something to show me how."

The engine revs and rumbles to life,
for now, her noise-filled head is blocked.
But when she goes to turn the wheel she finds that it is locked.

This has never happened before,
she's not sure what to do.
One glance into the rear-view mirror
is enough to make her go askew.

One hundred feet away he stares,
standing still and tall.
She feels as though her heart has stopped,
like she's slammed into a wall.

Before she can stop them,
her feet and hands are moving.
As they clutch the wheel and jam on the gas,
her mind's not even disapproving.

She feels the wheel become unstuck
as the car skids completely around.
She drives right towards him, straight and fast,
she was lost but by him is now found.

Her prayer was answered that fateful evening
all along, her answer was lying ahead.
She had to look back to know it was true
but went forward to fix it instead.

She now understood why the wheel wouldn’t turn,
there was a plan working from above.
He was steering her destiny from the beginning,
A real and true lock of love.
