The Storm

The sun had laid

the morning light

vanquishing the darkness

but the darkness fought

the sky grew black

the birds had vanished

and the little pond held still

the sun broke through

the darkness' hold

with bursts of light and power

but the darkness held

and the sky wept

for the black world
