Pain in the Pocket

by dandy   Feb 28, 2007

Strike a pose and walk with class,
and they will never know
the pain you carry in your pocket
and try so hard not to show.

Head held high, hair pinned up neat,
hide the frown and flash a smile.
This time those judges might be fooled
and not put you on trial.

And when you feel the tears well up
just turn away and laugh.
They'll see a complete image of you
when inside you're only half.

The trouble is when he comes
within your range-of-view.
The one who knows you all too well...
the one who sees right through.

I can give you no more good advice,
not of the sort to hide.
Because this person knows you're hurting
and pretending is denied.

It's hard to tell him a decent lie
about how you really feel.
Especially when he knows you so well...
When there's nothing left to reveal.

Don't bother hiding from this person,
that's just a waste of time.
He knows all of your secrets,
and sends your heart into constant rhyme.

But how can you stop the hurt
when he's the drug from which you can't abstain?
When he's the source of your affliction
yet the only way to numb that searing pain?

You know you're not complete without him,
but not sure if you can...
Can open your heart back up again
to see if that boy could be your one and only man.
