The River

by Barbi Taylor   Mar 1, 2007

The river is so calm and clear
The water's flow hides my tears
The water's tranquility
Treats me with civility
And somewhat eases my pain

Sitting on my knees
Begging the river "please,"
I hear a faint cry
A man, who seemed to be as sad as me
He lied there on the ground
With a utility of torture found

He held it up to his wrist,
The blade and skin gently kissed,
The violently pulled apart
Seeming to break his heart

Across the river is where he sat
A pool of blood as his mat
He looked up and caught my eye
He was about to die

Silently we talked a while
Until i was sure i made him smile
He yelled to me "I'm letting go,"
I winked at him and said "I Know."

He fell down with his eyes closed
I could tell his soul rose
I sat there thinking about why i was sad;
The memory made me mad
I Jumped into the river, wide
I struggled there till i felt the tide

I yelled to the sky
"I'm letting go too."
It asked me, "Why?"
"So I can be with you."

This is SUCH a beautiful poem Barbi! I loved reading it.. I probably reread it at least 3 times because I just loved it so much. I admire your work dear, it's all so wonderful. You didn't have me confused on anything.. and your poem was written very neatly, not messy at all and all very organized. You did such a wonderful job on this, I hope to see even more beautiful creations on yours in the future... take care and keep up the good work!! 5/5 <3 <3
