My Work

by Liz Armstrong   Mar 3, 2007

I've been plagued with this thing
It haunts me in my dreams
This little voice inside me just opens up and sings
"You can't let me go, I'm here now, I just won't up and go."

You must be broken first
Before I let you off the hook
You have to be drunken with a painful thirst
"You won't feel the same for a while now, you need to curl up together under the trees, in their comforting nooks."

He'll do my work soon
Don't you worry
He will be up late,
don't you hear him stirring?

You thought it would work out
You thought things would be okay
All he has come here to do
Is he has got something to say

He's gonna tell you he's gone
He's been for a while
Actually nothing was ever right
It was always wrong

I can leave now
He has completed the job
To break your heart
And leave you here to sob
