Happy Birthday

by Rachel   Mar 14, 2007

It's your birthday
You're finally nineteen; caught up with me
We play age like leapfrog
First me, then you
We're apart but always together
Most of our good times are
Long gone
We're both older now and in college
Busy with love and work

I never thought I'd fall in love
But I did and now there's no time for you
You're still my best friend
Such a strong woman
You'll be my maid of honor someday soon

I'm scared to tell you
That as little as we see each other now
I'm going even farther
Away
With him
And you'll blame me and I know
That you're partly right

You don't see the logic in my love for him
I don't blame you
Love is hard to understand
But he's my first and last
And you, who've had so many

I miss you, best friend
The one I call a sister
The one I've cried with and laughed with
The one who's always been there
But you're always on my mind
And even when we're 100 miles
Apart
You'll always be in my
Heart
