The thorn that makes the rose

by Jess   Mar 15, 2007

All things in life have an ugly side
Just like a rose carries with it, its thorns
Like the chaos of a city that its skyline hides
And a lover trapped into a fate that has formed

But what would a rose be without its thorns
Just a fragile thing to be touched by all
No it's the thorns that make the rose so special
And the rose stays beautiful despite its flaws

Look closer at the breathtaking skyline of a city
At the people who live and thrive inside
There is both ugliness and beauty in the people you see
It's the beauty that shines and the darkness the buldings will hide

Most days he is what she saw for her future
But some days he can make her want to die
Always has his love and beauty been more important to her
Despite what the lover can do to make her cry

We all have our area in which we fall short
And others wish we could succeed
But no matter how our own image we crack and distort
Our lovers will see our beauty, and our ugliness will seceed

I really loved it. I love the overall comparison to the rose and the many similies and metaphors you found within that one thing that could tie in with the feeling of Love so well. I loved your contrasting comparisons, and the technique you used when mentioning the rose's thorns and beauty with flaws. I liked how the poem describes ups and downs and the reality of love through something as simple as a flower or the sight of people passing by. I did however find the rhym scheme a bit off. It seemed like in some places you were using slant rhym but in others you just rhymed.

Overall thugh I loved it. Especially the stanza,
"What would a rose be with out its thorns...despite its flaws"
    Excellent read.
