Fleeting moments

by xXx Allison xXx   Mar 21, 2007

He saw her standing there
alone, insecure, and helpless
hate bubbled inside him
he turned and walked away

days ticked slowly by
he saw the girl each day
she appeared lots of places
math, social, most his classes

she was silent
listening to everything
a small giggle escaped her
only on the rare occasion

he soon began to see
that every time she smiled
her face became so pretty
and lit up his shallow world

but every time he saw her
he remembered that day
not that long ago
when he looked the other way

he put off talking to her
finding many excuses
the regret built up inside
till he could stand it no more

the phone was in his hands
and with trembling fingers
he dialed her number
her mother answered his call

his head fell to his arms
tears trickled down his cheeks
he hung up the cursed phone
and headed to her place

her mother handed him the note
the only thing he'd ever have
of the girl he'd grown to love
whom he'd never see again

there, in his hands
a picture of himself
but on the very back
her suicidal note

"I feel so very sorry
but life is really lonely
I get so tired of trying
this was the only way"

the minute he got home
he knew what he would do
the knife was in his hands
he softly said: "I love you"
