Lost the Battle but Won the War

by Dominique   Apr 22, 2007

To this day I wake up from dreams of you
I could pick apart your pictures until I'm blue
I always think of the things you have said
Visions and memories run through my head
The good and the bad times, I'll never forget
The things that meant the world to me
The precious things only I could see
Now my hair's flowing in the wind and I'm free
It doesn't mean anything anymore to me
I've let it go or tried to at least
I waved the white flag symbolic of defeat
I would close my eyes and your all I see
Now I stand that much taller
No longer am I amongst the fallen
I cleaned up my heart's mess
In spite of everything I'll never fall again
Way too much time was spent
To this day I ask "Where was my head?"
It was somewhere flying high in the clouds
Surrounded by popping hearts in crowds
I wanted everything destiny wouldn't allow
Holding my head so much higher
My heart burns inside, hotter than fire
For the first time in my life I never hurt like this before
I was able to see everything I never saw
I've learned valuable lessons I couldn't treasure more
My heart lost the battle but won the war
