Never Forget The Silence

by Kait   Apr 24, 2007

The hallway is empty.
And I'm walking alone.
I turn the corner.
You're walking in my direction.
It looks as if you're staring at me.
But, once I notice your stare becomes more intense.
Every second we get closer to each other, the harder it gets to breathe.
We are in each other's path.
One of us has to move.
But, we keep walking.
You stand in front of me.
I look up into your eyes only hoping for you to say something.
Not one word is spoken.
You grab my hand and hold on for a few seconds.
Still, no words slip from either of our mouths.
You let go of my hand and place a tiny slip of paper into it.
One final glance we share.
And, then you walk away.
I turn around to watch you.
You point to my hand and wait until I open the paper.
I slowly unfold the note and read what was written.
The words "I love you" was all that was there.
Tears for in my eyes and you notice.
You come back to me and pull me into your arms.
This all started with an awkward silence and ended in a silence I will never forget.
